Group homes are a necessary offering for children in foster care. Some children coming from abusive and neglectful homes are not capable of adjusting to a new foster family and need more intense counsel and therapy. For this reason, our group homes have become an integral part of assisting teenage boys and girls. Our programs at these facilities are based on the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Each adolescent is required to go to school and many also work part or full time. All experience the joys and challenges of living closely with one another, learning how to resolve conflicts, successfully completing house chores, accessing area services, and much more. Our staff works closely with the youth as both behavior coaches and role models. Our on-site counselors work both individually and with groups, helping the youth feel supported and cared for while they learn about becoming adults and successfully transitioning into a more permanent placement within the community.
