Triad Alternative School Program
The YMCA Triad Alternative Program is a cooperative community project developed to help teens improve their chances for future success. It is a behavior modification program using low student to staff ratios, self-contained classrooms, modified curricula, adventure-based learning, and a "whole-student" approach to teaching. The school's first priority is addressing student behavior. With the use of an integrated behavior modification system, criteria for student success are established. To meet this criteria for success, students are provided with instruction and counseling in a caring and supportive environment. When students meet Triad "Graduation" requirements, they begin the process of re-entry to school, vocational training, college or employment.

The School Board of Sarasota County assigns students to the Triad Alternative Program. These students meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Commission of an expellable offense within the Sarasota County Public Schools;
  • Court involvement with a recommendation for alternative school placement;
  • Truancy, habitual disruption, and /or behaviors that interfere with learning in the regular school environment.

Triad
We are a school designed for children who have committed an expellable offense or whose behaviors have resulted in a referral from the Sarasota County Public School System.

Who We Help
We are a program for students in grades 6th through 12th who live in the northern part of Sarasota County.

What We Can Do
The program is designed to improve behaviors and increase academic skills. Students learn to control the behaviors that caused them to be referred to this program. Students learn to respect others, to take responsibility, to be honest, and to care about the feelings of other people, all core values of the YMCA.. This program treats the "whole student" in a small class environment.

Program Goal
Students who complete this program will return to their regular schools.
